Strong Women, Strong Minds for a Strong Community.
Established in May 2011 by founding donor and advisor Angela Massaro-Fain, Sisterhood For Good is a fun, active giving circle that unites women who share common philanthropic goals. We derive our strength from the integration of the energies, talents and expertise of our diverse and dynamic members.
Power in Numbers
Alone we can only do so much, but together we can truly make changes for the better. Sisterhood For Good has a goal to grow to 100 passionate members to broaden our reach and enhance our impact in the community we love. Since our first year, we have continued to raise funds to present local non-profit organizations in the Sarasota-Manatee area with grants that support their unique missions and goals.
Who governs the Sisterhood For Good giving circle?
Each giving circle formed under the agreement with the Manatee Community Foundation governs itself through its elected “donor advisor.” This appointee receives and forwards all official communication with the Foundation. Funds collected by the Sisterhood For Good women’s giving circle are held and managed as a component fund of the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund under the Manatee Community Foundation. No monies are held by the appointee.
What is the financial commitment for members of Sisterhood For Good?
To be a part of the Founders’ 50 of the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund, giving circles must commit to establishing a minimum of $10,000 for an endowment fund. Each member of Sisterhood For Good must donate $1,000 to the fund over a course of a five-year period, which is only an obligation of $200 per year for five years. All funds collected by our circle are distributed in grants to the organizations or programs that matter most to our members. This provides women an affordable way to make a significant difference for organizations in need. All contributions are tax deductible. What is a donor-advised fund?
A donor-advised fund is a philanthropic vehicle established at a public charity. It allows donors to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax benefit and then recommend grants from the fund over time. A donor-advised fund is like a charitable savings account in which a donor contributes to the fund as frequently as they like and then recommends grants to their selected charities as they see fit.
